Hi, I’m Brenda Geiger –a serial entrepreneur and the publisher of Eat Drink Dive in Kansas City. I’ve built and sold four businesses; ran the marketing departments at three hospitals; and launched 22 new products and services for clients during the past 30 years.
I grew up on a farm but fell in love with the city — Kansas City. Work gigs tempted me to move twice, but I just couldn’t bring myself to abandon this glorious, shiny, seedy, affordable, friendly, naughty and ever-evolving city.
My curiosity fuels me to report on restaurant owners, barkeeps, Inn owners and entrepreneurs who make Kansas City the coolest place to live — bar none.
I got hooked on dive bars while bootstrapping my way through college. I was a cocktail waitress at the Granary in Warrensburg, Mo., and pocketed the money from the pool tables at the Ozark Inn in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to cover my tuition (my stepdad was the owner).
In between road drinking and eating tipsy weenies at Old Barney’s for dinner, I earned a journalism degree.

A lot of the bar and restaurant posts you’ll read here are about Kanas City’s most endearing pubs that have outlasted some pretty piss poor times. My favorite pub, The Quaff, has survived mafia bombings, recessions, redevelopments, franchise competition, no-smoking laws, and now a pandemic.
