Window Shopping in Historic Downtown Liberty

I had great fun shopping historic downtown Liberty, Mo., on my birthday Feb. 25.I hadn’t been in downtown Liberty since I met a friend for breakfast at Ginger’s Sue’s nearly two years ago. Shame on me.

First, I checked out Hammerhand Coffee located at the corner of Franklin and Main. I’m so glad I dropped by to have a latte and hear barista Kayla tell me what was up at Hammerhand.

After my latte, I did a little window shopping. What girl could resist?  This is what I saw.

Eating and Drinking in Historic Downtown Liberty

Ginger Sue’s   David Bradley and Ginger Fuller have been serving breakfast and lunch from 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for 13 years on the square. This quaint restaurant is far finer than a diner. Try a Don’t Be Crabby or Aloha Awakea Omelet, depending on your mood of course. If you’re trying to be healthy, ask for egg whites only or an order of the wheat germ pancakes.

Hammerhand Coffee   Owner Alex Merrell and his fantastic — good looking and friendly –baristas are nailing it in Liberty with their impeccably brewed and poured coffee. The building where its original location was planned collapsed prior to the hard opening (thank God). Hammerhand moved to 22 N. Main instead where its team has been working full steam ahead since 2016.

I dropped by to meet Hammerhand’s baristas and I’m thrilled I did. They were so passionate about their work and so helpful in bringing me up to date on their three year business journey.

Going forward, Hammerhand intends to nail down another few locations in the Kansas City area, so check back often for updates here.

La Costa Mexican Restaurant.  Owner Angel Montoya opened on Liberty Square around four years ago and has been delighting local taste buds ever since. Montoya’s Liberty Square restaurant is his only location so boogie on down to Liberty Square to taste his authentic Mexican cuisine.

Event Space in Historic Downtown Liberty

Restoration 1894 – I fell in love with the looks of this building and space when I was scouting a venue for my wedding reception in 2018. It was a bit out of our price range, but check it out for your special event.

Shop Historic Downtown Liberty

Bea’s Designs. I didn’t have time to pop in, but the window signage “Shop Small and One-stop Eclectic Retail Shop” stopped me dead in my tracks. “Small” and “Eclectic” are my two spirit words.

Bea’s sells clothing, jewelry, and funky gifts. I’ll definitely be back when I can linger, touch, and support local through a few purchases at Bea’s.

Catfish + Tater Boutique   Catfish & Tater has great women’s outfits in the window, but the doors were locked over the lunch hour when I arrived.

Another fashionista circled the block impatiently hoping a Catfish + Tater clerk would return and cut bait. We both left hungry without any catfish or taters.

Etch. I loved Etch’s vibe and exterior sign. I didn’t go in, but found this shop description on the store’s Facebook page:  A Christian lifestyle brand that helps weave God’s Word into every part of our lives and ETCH it on our hearts (Prov 7:3 MSG).

Petals and Potpourri – Home accents and gifts are staples at this quaint boutique that’s been in business 40 years. It’s located directly underneath the event space Restoration 1894.

Textured Décor’ Boutique. I loved the textured pillows and home décor fabrics in this shop’s window. Everything looked so good inside I created a slight fog on the exterior with my nose pressed so close to merchandise. I’ll definitely be back to explore what the shop owner Courtney Vandendaele sees trending for homes this spring. This store could be a decorator’s secret weapon.

That’s all I had time to do over my lunch hour. If these pictures don’t whet your appetite to go browse, eat, and sip marvelous coffee in Historic Downtown Liberty then you probably don’t have a pulse.

There’s something magical about a town square, don’t you think?
