Tom’s Tom Distilling Company

The People are Thirsty

Tom’s Town Distilling Co. is named after the country’s most corrupt political boss, Tom Pendergast. Pendergast started as a saloon keeper and the founder of a wholesale liquor company.

Under Tom, Kansas City ignored Prohibition and emerged as the “Paris of the Plains.” Money, jazz, and spirits flowed in the open. When asked how he justified ignoring Prohibition, Pendergast quipped, “The people are thirsty.”

Today Tom’s Town makes premium craft spirits, including intoxicating gin, vodka, and bourbon. The bar is plush and the bartenders crush it when it comes to making premium cocktails with mob-inspired spirits made on the premises without breaking a law.

The food menu is as mouth watering as the cocktail list. Tours are available for $13 a person for an hour of history and a bit of decadent tastings.
